“In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit” (Ephesians 1:13)
The Holy Spirit within us is God’s seal and guarantee, reassuring us that one day we will come into our full inheritance as God’s children and receive the totality of his promises. We do not have to wait for eternal life to start experiencing the firstfruits of our salvation. Even now on earth we can know God’s presence, walk in his power, receive his comfort, and bear his fruit – all because his Spirit resides within. The Spirit whispers divine truths to us, kindles faith in our hearts, and produces His likeness in us. His presence is a down payment and foretaste of the glory, joy, and communion coming to us, when we will know just as we are fully known. We can face each day with confidence, whatever it brings, knowing the Spirit testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children and fellow heirs with Christ.
