My commentary on Deuteronomy was written for Pastors, Bible teachers, and students of the Bible. You can order it from Amazon here.
Nice things people are saying about this book:
In the rising generation of gifted preachers and teachers, Trent Casto is among the best at explaining and applying the Bible. This new exposition of Deuteronomy is deep in its exploration of the Lord’s teaching through Moses, and clear as it draws connections of all kinds, from biblical theology to the practical directions it gives for both the church and wider society.
Daniel M. Doriani, Professor of Theology, Covenant Theological Seminary; Founder and President, Center for Faith & Work, St. Louis; Board of Directors, The Gospel Coalition
Trent Casto’s exposition of Deuteronomy is a storehouse of blessings for the people of God. Readers will discover how the law of God points to Christ and the heart of the gospel. Preachers will find well-crafted structure for sermons, graced with gripping introductions, thoughtful applications, and attention-keeping illustrations. This clear and faithful exposition of Deuteronomy encourages students of Scripture to pursue God’s covenantal blessings that radiate through Christ-centered preaching of the Old Testament.
Peter A. Lillback, President, Westminster Theological Seminary
With his extensive and faithful pastoral experience, Trent Casto’s expositions of Deuteronomy provide excellent examples of what the Reformed Expository Commentary series aspires to accomplish: solid exposition with serious application to the concerns of today’s Christians. One need not agree with every correlation to celebrate a pastor’s doing the hard and courageous work of leading God’s people with the highest priority of helping them to be faithful to the truth of Scripture.
Bryan Chapell, President emeritus, Covenant Theological Seminary; General Editor, The ESV Gospel Transformation Bible
During his temptation in the wilderness, the Lord Jesus Christ quoted the book of Deuteronomy three times as he resisted the assaults of Satan. As the covenant manual of God’s people, Deuteronomy is particularly foundational to the rest of the Old Testament. The substance of three sermons that Moses delivered on the plains of Moab, the book contains various themes that converge in beautiful harmony here–promise and provision, law and love, charity and chastity, idolatry and intercession, marriage and mediation, fear and family, holiness and heart-worship, legacy and loyalty, revelation and rebellion, and meditation and memorization. In this commentary, Trent Casto draws out the Lord Jesus Christ as the center of Deuteronomy–the one who bore our covenant curses and bestows on us the covenant blessings that he purchased for elect sinners on the cross. By doing so, Casto shows again that the themes of gospel, grace, and gratitude are present in the Old Testament as well as the New. Here is a Reformed, sermonic, and expositional treatment of the last book of Moses, the “sermon text” of the prophets, and (apparently) one of the most-memorized books of our Savior himself. Savor every page while you sit under the pulpit of a pastor who has carefully exegeted, diligently prayed over, and passionately preached through every verse.

The task of the interpreter of the Bible is to straddle two worlds–that of the original audience’s cultural and historical context and the present situation of the contemporary reader. In this installment of the Reformed Expository Commentary series on Deuteronomy, Dr. Trent Casto delivers admirably on both fronts. Attuned to the biblical text throughout, Casto refuses to shirk the difficult interpretive questions, yet also provides wise pastoral application. Pastors and other students of the Bible will find this commentary a treasure trove of biblical truth rooted in the Reformed tradition that guides us in a life of joyful obedience to our covenant God.

My expository commentary on 2 Corinthians was written for Pastors, Bible teachers and students of the Bible. Those desiring a deeper understanding of Paul’s message will benefit from reading this book. You can order it from Amazon here.
Nice things people are saying about this book:
Paul’s second epistle to the Corinthians is passionate, pastoral, and shockingly transparent about the apostle’s sufferings and shortcomings. . . . Pastor Trent Casto’s exposition of this letter blends sound interpretation with heart-searching application, making the apostle’s message uncomfortably humbling and strikingly contemporary.
Dennis E. Johnson, Professor Emeritus of Practical Theology, Westminster Seminary California
The product of sound scholarship, a Christ-centered perspective, and authentic pastoral engagement. . . . These expositions [are] particularly poignant, powerful, and appropriate for both explaining and applying the text.
Bryan Chapell, Stated Clerk, Presbyterian Church in America
A wonderfully faithful and useful commentary, the work of a man who is both a scholarly pastor and a pastoral scholar. The writing is clear and engaging, the scholarship is careful and thorough, and the pastoral application is penetrating and thoughtful.
Christopher Ash, Writer in Residence, Tyndale House, Cambridge
Here one finds engaging illustration, judicious sermonic structure, and succinct theological integrity adorned by contemporary personal application. These sterling qualities coalesce to make this volume the starting point for preaching or teaching 2 Corinthians today.
Peter A. Lillback, President, Westminster Theological Seminary
Trent Casto draws on rich and varied ministry experience, writing with grace (literary and spiritual), command of the text, and theological acumen. . . . This exposition will reward receptive readers with fresh insight, constructive conviction, and encouragement.
Robert W. Yarbrough, Professor of New Testament, Covenant Theological Seminary
Scholarship, cultural engagement, and pastoral care [combine], creating a guide that expounds Paul’s rich personal message and applies it to both timeless and timely issues.
Daniel M. Doriani, Professor of Biblical Theology, Covenant Theological Seminary
Carefully researched and practically applied. . . . You will find great help . . . in this commentary.
Joel R. Beeke, President, Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary
I’ve had the privilege of sitting under Trent Casto’s teaching and observing the vitality of his personal walk with God. This volume reflects both academic rigor and the warmth of a pastor’s heart. Most importantly, it flows from the life of a practitioner leading a local church that is bearing much fruit.
