The Power of Forgiveness

Like Brandt Jean, we can extend remarkable forgiveness to others by God’s grace. As Christians, we are called to be people of forgiveness, reflecting the mercy that was shown to us (Eph 4:32). Unforgiveness is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to be harmed. It only breeds bitterness and isolation. But forgiveness brings tremendous healing in our own hearts. Though incredibly difficult at times, releasing others frees us from the prison of resentment and anger. Forgiveness doesn’t excuse wrong behavior or remove consequences. But it does release a person from our condemnation. As followers of Jesus, may we embrace forgiveness as our permanent attitude, setting others free as we have been set free.

Questions:

  1. Is there someone you need to forgive today? What’s holding you back?
  2. How might forgiving that person and releasing them change your life? Be bold and extend grace!
