Paul also wants us to know more fully “the riches of [God’s] glorious inheritance in the saints” (Ephesians 1:18). Though we look forward to the amazing inheritance we will receive from God, this phrase actually refers to something different – our value and worth to God as His people. While we were once far off, now through Christ we have been brought near and have become God’s treasured possession. Just as an earthly king highly values his silver, gold, and jewels, God cherishes and delights in His redeemed people. We are His prized inheritance. The high cost Jesus paid to purchase us out of slavery and into sonship shows our immeasurable worth to the Father. As dearly loved children, we do not need to strive to earn worth or perform for approval. Our identity and value is rooted in being cherished by God Himself. Ask the Spirit to enlighten your heart with this truth.
- Do you truly feel treasured by God? What makes that difficult?
- How would seeing yourself as God’s prized and beloved possession change your life?
