James 5:14-15 instructs church elders to anoint the sick with oil and pray over them for their healing, exhibiting bold faith that “the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up.” Too often we doubt God’s power and fail to earnestly implore his healing touch. Yet Scripture urges us to ask freely and believe firmly in God’s ability to restore. Jesus frequently healed disease and affliction in his earthly ministry as a foretaste of his future redemption of all creation from sickness and sin (Mt 4:23; Rom 8:18-25). While the kingdom has not yet fully come, let us consistently bring our infirmities to God in expectant prayer, confident in his compassion and sovereign ability to heal if he so chooses.
Questions: Do I earnestly believe Jesus can heal me or others if he wills? What prayers for healing do I need to start praying?
